I’ve enjoyed previous books by this author, including Love Unfeigned and Hope Unashamed, the books that “birthed” the two characters in this current novella. I wouldn’t say that you need to read them before reading this book, but it will sure give you background on some of the characters and will make your reading experience more fulfilling.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book provided by the author. All opinions are my own. This post contains affiliate links, see disclosures for more detail.
About the Book:
If only this type of thing were as easy as it looks in chick flicks.
Ever since her college days, Chantelle has had growing feelings for Dennis, a swaggering and smart geek-at-heart who’s got romance coming out of his ears. At least, he talks as if he’s mastered the art of dating, but how would Chantelle know if it’s true? She’s never gotten to experience Dennis as anything more than a close friend.
But wait! A huge opportunity comes along that could impact both their personal and professional lives. This may lead to the perfect time for Chantelle to tell Dennis what he means to her.
It may also be time for some of Chantelle’s own words about love to come back to bite her.
Oops.
My Thoughts:
I gave this book 4/5 stars
This is such a fun, heartwarming novella. I loved getting to know Chantelle and Dennis and I was rooting throughout for them to give into their feelings for each other. This sweet friends-to-lovers romance is filled with humorous banter. Chapters alternate between Chantelle’s and Dennis’s points of view, so the reader knows their true feelings even before they can admit them to each other.
Usually, I am a major proponent for “just talk to each other already!”, but in this short book, their inability to talk about their feelings works well. It just serves to elevate the romantic tension until they can reveal how they really feel, and since it doesn’t drag out for hundreds of pages, it works well in this case. I enjoyed every minute with these characters.
